General Information and FAQ

  • You will be teamed up in pairs for the assigned timeslots.
  • We will provide floorplans of all Engineering occupied buildings; once you have visited a room and collected data, mark it off on the plan.
  • PC based teaching labs are exempt from the hardware audit, and will be marked as such on the floorplans.
  • Special cases are research laboratories, so please note:
    • You will need to complete the Health & Safety as well as the Laboratory safety online module in TrainMe
    • Please do not interfere with any running equipment in labs
    • Be aware of mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards in Engineering labs
    • Wear closed non-mesh shoes and protective glasses where indicated
  • Please knock before entering rooms and communicate what you are about to do to the person(s) present and ask for their consent before you commence.
  • If nothing found in room other than peripherals, e.g. dock, standard screen, KB & mouse - record the dock and its brand.
  • Only non-standard monitors need recording; that is, bigger than the standard 23 or 24" HP or DELL screens.
  • The tasks are two-fold:
    • one to discover the required data:
      1. Hardware type
      2. Brand & Model of Computer and non-standard screens (if easily discernible)
      3. UOM Tag Number
      4. Network outlet the device is connected to (if it can easily be accessed ONLY!)
    • the other to record the data:
      1. Building
      2. Room
      3. User (if it is in a marked office, or, if in a research lab situation, talk to whoever you find there to establish who leads the group or what the name of the research lab is)
      4. Hardware data as discovered
  • If unsure of anything, please contact either:
    • Thomas on 0412 742 898
    • or Michael on 0421 085 966
